Frequently Asked Questions

In most EU countries, no — provided the bike is a pedelec (EPAC): a motor rated at 250W continuous with pedal assistance cutting out at 25 km/h. That is the legal definition of a bicycle under EN 15194, and it needs no licence, registration, plate or insurance in the majority of member states.

Models with higher output, a higher top speed, or a throttle that drives the bike without pedalling can fall outside that definition and be treated as mopeds. Each product page states the figures. Check your local rules before riding on public roads.

Every range figure we publish is a best case, measured under favourable conditions. Real-world range is always lower and depends on rider weight, assist level, terrain, headwind, temperature and tyre pressure. Cold weather in particular cuts range noticeably.

As a rough guide, plan for around 60–75% of the headline figure in everyday mixed riding, and less again if you rely on a throttle or ride hilly terrain.

Lithium batteries last longest when they are not stored at extremes. Avoid leaving the battery at 0% or sitting at 100% for weeks; around 40–60% is ideal for long storage. Charge indoors at room temperature, use the supplied charger, and avoid charging straight after a hard ride while the pack is still hot.

Treated this way, expect several hundred full charge cycles before you see meaningful capacity loss.

About Cargo Electric Bikes

A cargo e-bike is built to carry more without turning every trip into a workout. Whether you are transporting groceries, work gear, parcels, or a child seat, the key differences are a reinforced frame, higher load capacity, strong low-speed assistance, dependable brakes, and a battery large enough to handle the extra weight.

Payload capacity matters

Not every e-bike with a rear rack is a true cargo bike. A proper cargo e-bike is designed around higher total loads, with a stronger frame, wheels, rack system, and braking setup. Always check the maximum payload and remember that it normally includes the rider, cargo, accessories, and anything mounted on the bike.

Torque matters more than top speed

Cargo bikes spend much of their time starting from a stop, climbing with extra weight, or riding at lower speeds. That makes motor torque more important than chasing a high top speed. Strong low-end assistance makes loaded starts smoother and helps the bike maintain speed on hills without forcing the rider to push hard.

Battery range changes when loaded

Cargo weight, hills, temperature, tyre pressure, and assistance level can all reduce real-world range. A larger battery is especially useful on a cargo e-bike because the motor works harder when the bike is carrying extra weight. If you plan to use the bike for deliveries, family transport, or longer daily trips, battery capacity should be one of the first specifications you compare.
