Best Electric Bike for Food Delivery in Europe 2026: Range, Legal Limits and Daily Costs

Europe · courier buying guide · 2026

The best delivery e-bike is the one that finishes your shift legally

A huge battery is useful, but a working courier also needs predictable range, a secure cargo setup, brakes that tolerate repeated stops, serviceable parts and a configuration that remains an ordinary bicycle where it is ridden.

Quick answer

For high-mileage shifts: the DUOTTS C29-K stands out with about 1,800Wh across two removable batteries. It is currently €1,099, or an expected €999 with code DS100. It is not the automatic winner for every rider: at 32.5kg it is difficult on stairs, and the 22.5Ah rear battery occupies the rack deck where many couriers want a top box.

What delivery riders should prioritise

Urban shifts under 50km

A lighter 500–750Wh e-bike may be easier to carry, park and manoeuvre. Reliable brakes, removable charging and a low-maintenance drivetrain often matter more than maximum battery capacity.

Long or split shifts

Two removable packs reduce mid-shift charging pressure. The C29-K combines 720Wh and 1,080Wh batteries, but the extra energy also adds weight and changes cargo mounting.

Hilly routes

Plan from measured consumption, not claimed kilometres. Rider mass, cargo, gradients, cold weather, wind and frequent acceleration raise watt-hours per kilometre.

Apartment storage

Measure stairs, lifts, doors and the charging location. A 32.5kg bicycle can be a poor work tool even when its range looks perfect.

How much battery does a full shift need?

The safest method is to record distance and battery use on your own route. For planning, divide usable watt-hours by consumption. The table deliberately budgets only 80% of the nominal 1,800Wh so that weather, detours and display error do not leave the rider stranded.

Planning consumption 80% working distance Typical conditions
9Wh/km about 160km Flat route, active pedalling, low assistance
12Wh/km about 120km Mixed city riding with moderate support
15Wh/km about 96km Stop-start traffic, cargo, hills or wind
18Wh/km about 80km Cold weather, heavy load or high assistance

DUOTTS claims up to 150–170km depending on the official regional page. Independent European reviews consider roughly 100–140km more plausible in demanding real use, with more possible under calm efficient riding. Those are reference points, not guarantees.

The rack question that decides the purchase

The C29-K rear rack is rated to 25kg, yet its large rear battery sits on the main deck. A rating does not prove that an insulated box will fit, remain stable or leave access to the battery lock. Side panniers may work better than a large top-mounted bag, but dimensions must be confirmed. Do not clamp through the battery case, cables or rear-light wiring.

EU 250W and 25km/h: the normal starting point

Regulation (EU) 168/2013 excludes pedal-assist cycles with no more than 250W continuous rated power, assistance that cuts before 25km/h and assistance that stops when pedalling stops from motor-vehicle type approval. National rules and enforcement still matter. For public-road delivery, choose the country-appropriate EU configuration and keep proof of conformity. A display setting does not turn a faster or more powerful version into a legal pedelec.

Do not choose the International 750W version for ordinary public-road courier work merely because it is faster. Vehicle classification, insurance, registration and permitted roads can change.

Daily cost is more than electricity

Charging an e-bike is usually inexpensive compared with fuel, but professional use accelerates wear. Budget for brake pads, tyres, chains, cassettes, puncture protection, lights, locks and lost work time. Two batteries also mean two locks, connectors and charging routines to inspect. A cheaper bike that repeatedly misses shifts is more expensive than a serviceable one.

The C29-K’s €999 checkout route can make sense when range is the bottleneck and ground-floor storage is available. Riders doing shorter routes should compare that benefit with the convenience of a lighter bicycle.

Delivery e-bike FAQ

What is the best e-bike for food delivery?

For short city shifts, prioritise low weight and serviceability. For long shifts, prioritise verified battery capacity, cargo compatibility and legal configuration. The C29-K is strongest when energy reserve matters most.

Can 1,800Wh cover a full shift?

Often it can, but shift length is not guaranteed. Measure Wh/km on the real route and preserve a reserve.

Can a delivery box fit the C29-K?

Not automatically. The rear battery occupies the rack deck. Check the chosen box, pannier frame and lock access before purchase.

Is a 750W e-bike legal for EU delivery work?

Do not assume so. Ordinary pedelec treatment usually starts with 250W continuous rated power, pedal assistance and a 25km/h cut-off; national requirements must be checked.

How much is the C29-K?

XVELO currently lists €1,099. DS100 is intended to reduce the product price to €999; verify the cart.
