Frequently Asked Questions

In most EU countries, no — provided the bike is a pedelec (EPAC): a motor rated at 250W continuous with pedal assistance cutting out at 25 km/h. That is the legal definition of a bicycle under EN 15194, and it needs no licence, registration, plate or insurance in the majority of member states.

Models with higher output, a higher top speed, or a throttle that drives the bike without pedalling can fall outside that definition and be treated as mopeds. Each product page states the figures. Check your local rules before riding on public roads.

Every range figure we publish is a best case, measured under favourable conditions. Real-world range is always lower and depends on rider weight, assist level, terrain, headwind, temperature and tyre pressure. Cold weather in particular cuts range noticeably.

As a rough guide, plan for around 60–75% of the headline figure in everyday mixed riding, and less again if you rely on a throttle or ride hilly terrain.

Lithium batteries last longest when they are not stored at extremes. Avoid leaving the battery at 0% or sitting at 100% for weeks; around 40–60% is ideal for long storage. Charge indoors at room temperature, use the supplied charger, and avoid charging straight after a hard ride while the pack is still hot.

Treated this way, expect several hundred full charge cycles before you see meaningful capacity loss.

All products at Xvelo come with a 2-year warranty covering the frame, motor and battery. Every unit is inspected before it ships. If something is wrong on arrival, contact us and we will sort it out.

About Electric Bikes

An e-bike replaces the car for most trips under 15 km — and it does it without leaving you sweaty. Our range spans four brands and every job an e-bike can do: folding commuters that fit under a desk, fat-tyre all-terrain bikes, mid-drive trekking bikes with torque sensors, longtail cargo bikes that carry kids and shopping, and electric trikes for riders who want stability.

The two numbers that actually matter

Battery capacity in watt-hours (Wh) determines range — not voltage, not amp-hours alone. Motor torque in newton-metres (Nm) is what you feel on a climb — not peak wattage, which is the figure most marketing leads with. Every product page lists both, plus the cell brand where the manufacturer discloses it.

Road-legal, or not

Most bikes here are built to the EU EPAC standard: 250W continuous, assistance to 25 km/h, no licence or insurance needed in most member states. A few higher-output models fall outside that definition and are supplied for off-road use. Each product page says which. Check your national rules before buying.
