Dual-Battery E-Bike for Food Delivery in Austria: Is the DUOTTS C29-K Worth €999?

A second battery is valuable when a rider cannot return home, swap bikes or plug in between delivery blocks. But it can also make a work bike heavier, more expensive and harder to load safely. The DUOTTS C29-K is an unusually clear example: 48V 15Ah in the frame plus 48V 22.5Ah at the rear, sold by Xvelo for €1,099 or €999 with code DS100.
The C29-K EU is worth considering for a courier who regularly runs long shifts without a charging opportunity. It is not the automatic best choice for every Austrian rider: the complete bike weighs 32.5kg, the rear battery shares space with delivery equipment, and Austrian road classification depends on the delivered motor-control configuration.

What does 1,800Wh actually mean on a delivery route?
Nominal energy is a more useful comparison than a headline “up to 170km” range. The C29-K's two listed batteries sum to 48V × (15Ah + 22.5Ah), or about 1,800Wh. That is 2.5 times the nominal energy of the single-battery C29 Pro's 720Wh. It does not guarantee 2.5 times the distance: route, assistance level, riding speed, temperature, tyre pressure and payload all influence consumption.
An illustrative calculation makes the point: if a rider's own measured consumption is 20Wh/km, 1,800Wh divided by 20 suggests 90km before accounting for usable capacity, battery ageing or a prudent reserve. At 25Wh/km the same arithmetic is 72km. These are examples, not Xvelo road-test results. Record battery use on your actual Vienna, Graz or Linz route before relying on either number for an entire paid shift.
Can a delivery bag share the rear rack with the second battery?
The manufacturer lists a 25kg maximum for the C29-K rear rack. The second battery and its mount occupy part of that area and load allowance. Do not treat 25kg as additional free capacity for a food box. Ask for the battery-and-rack assembly's allowable remaining load and use a purpose-compatible, secure mount. Check that a bag cannot foul the rear wheel, lights or brake. A backpack may avoid the rack issue but brings its own comfort and heat-management compromises during long shifts.
The C29-K's hydraulic brakes are welcome for loaded urban riding, but they still need pad inspection and maintenance. Its 29-inch wheels favour a full-size riding position, while the 32.5kg bike is inconvenient for upstairs storage. That trade-off matters more to a courier than it does to a weekend rider.
Is the C29-K worth €290 more than a C29 Pro?
Xvelo currently lists the C29 Pro EU single-battery variant at €739, or €709 with DS30. The C29-K EU is €999 with DS100—a €290 final-price difference. Paying it mainly buys extra energy storage, not a more natural torque-sensor feel: DUOTTS lists a speed sensor for the C29-K. If you normally finish a shift with charge to spare on a 720Wh bike, the heavier C29-K may be unnecessary. If you regularly need a second charging window, the larger battery reserve may save planning time.
For a closer lower-cost comparison, see our German guide to delivery e-bikes under €750 in Austria. The difference should be judged on your distance and charging access, not a universal “best” badge.
If you currently rent a work bike, the Austria buy-versus-rent cost guide shows why dividing the purchase price by a monthly rental quote is only a starting point.

Choose the specific EU Version, not the International Version, and request written confirmation of the delivered controls. The EU version is listed at 250W and 25km/h, but DUOTTS also describes a half-twist throttle in its package information. Austrian police guidance says certain seated vehicles that can drive without pedalling via a throttle are E-Mopeds from 1 October 2026, with different licensing, registration and road-use requirements. We cannot declare the delivered C29-K legally equivalent to a conventional pedal-assist bicycle without verifying its actual configuration and documents.
Who should buy the C29-K EU?
It fits a rider whose measured route makes a single battery inconvenient, who has secure ground-level storage, and who has a safe solution for the delivery bag and rear-battery rack. It is less convincing for short shifts, frequent stair carrying or a box installation that has not been approved for the available rack capacity. The €999 price with DS100 is attractive only if those practical checks pass.
